What started as a 4-H project for our boys, grew into Five Oaks Farm all because of that one simple question. We suspect your situation may be a lot like ours. You kids are showing cattle to learn about hard work, perseverance, caring for God’s creations, and all the other life lessons learned out in the barn. Somewhere along the way, they do not want to be in the ring just because they enjoy it, they want a shot at bringing home a banner (secretly, you probably do too). Here is where we come in. Based in Sparta, Tennessee, we are a family-owned Red Angus cattle operation with deep-rooted progeny. Deep Rooted Cattle
We started with some of the best Red Angus in the Upper Midwest and Canada and brought it down South. Our Red Angus cattle run generations deep with large numbers of progeny in the herd. We are positive proof high-quality cattle thrive east of the Mississippi River.

Maternal

How We Got Started
We started with 7 acres and a few heifers, an old trailer, and a blower that barely worked. One thing led to another, and we acquired 35 of the best Red Angus cattle the breed had to offer from North Dakota and helped them thrive in the hills of Sparta, Tennessee.

The Meaning of Five Oaks
At Five Oaks Farm, our love for the Lord runs deep. Our life verse is Isaiah 61:3, which says, “… that they will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.” For us, those five oaks of righteousness are our five boys. They were the reason for the start of our Red Angus herd, and they display the Lord’s splendor throughout their daily lives.

The History of Our Herd
Our herd began with 35 of the best of the Red Angus cattle out of the North Dakota plains, that have thrived in the hills of Tennessee. We started with six donors, a national champion bull, and have increasingly improved our herd. Visit our Donors page to learn more about our leading cows.

Travis and Gail Giffey
Travis was born and raised in North Dakota, and Gail was born in Florida and raised in Minnesota. We met in our agricultural engineering classes at North Dakota State University. After graduating and getting married, we moved to Sparta, Tennessee. Today, we both work on Five Oaks Farm while Gail homeschools the boys and Travis also runs a financial firm in town.

The Five Oaks
We started growing our family and are blessed with five boys: Grady, Gavin, Gunner, Gage and Grant. Born and raised in Tennessee, they are the reason Five Oaks Farm became what it is today. Their life on the farm has had lasting impacts. All of the boys have gained skills and values setting them up for successful futures through being raised on Five Oaks Farm.

Our Fun Side
